I started a Bible reading plan this week, with a prayer to stay consistent. I have read almost every book of the Bible completely but I think a focus on structured reading, rather than hopping to and fro, is a good thing. I’m using the LifeChurch/ YouVersion bible app for the BB to do so. It has a Blended plan, among others, that I’m going to use as a guide.

Feels good to re-read (and read for the first time) some things and ask the Holy Spirit to expand my understanding.

Job 10

Job 10 “1 I loathe my life; I will give free utterance to my complaint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. 2 I will say to God, Do not condemn me; let me know why you contend against me. 3 Does it seem good to you to oppress, to despise the work of your hands and favor the designs of the wicked?”

This is just the beginning of that chapter and all I can say is, “Wow!”. Sometimes I think of how sovereign and untouchable God is that I forget He is merciful enough to let us get a little frustrated with him at times. Obviously, we can’t just run with it but He knows us and His good plans so itss humbling to know He’ll let us vent a little.

The thing that is beautiful to me as we move further down that text, is how Job’s complaints/ questions are so obviously answered by the untouchable character of our Timeless Lord!

This is an encouraging chapter for me to read in the midst of times of financial strain and struggle. Thank the Holy Spirit for His presence and comfort!

Time Ticks Quick

Just a thought that crossed my mind and figured I’d post since I haven’t in so long:

It still hits me periodically just how amazing it is to be a father. Each time I look at my son and daughter I think about how time has seemed to fly by. I can almost remember the snacks at the kitchen table after my first week of elementary school. Now, I’m only a couple years away from that with my children. From nursing to talking in a short time!

I Corinthians 11:7- “For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he
is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man.”(NKJV) Men, this is a note, not from the heart and mind of Kellus Hill, but from the heart and mind of The Lord Himself. When we look at the scripture above, it is in the midst of a discussion that Paul is having with the church of Corinth about certain traditions that he requests be held to honor Yahweh. Obviously, these cultural stances are not as prevalent in certain modern circles but the deeper spiritual meaning behind it is of eternal significance. To put it bluntly, how your wife is seen by the “outside world” is a direct reflection of you and your love for her. Now let me offer a disclaimer/ note of clarification. This DOES NOT mean that if you fit your wife with designer clothes, a luxurious car, and various jewels that you are proving to be a good husband, not in an authentic way at least. The authenticity of a Christian isn’t/ shouldn’t be based on their collection of temporal possessions but rather the love that reflects from The Father. He offers wisdom, understanding, the fruit of The Spirit, and other eternal things that reflect His nature. In a similar way a husband should offer these acquired attributes to his wife so that she can reflect them in a manner of authentic glory. As a man seeks to follow the Father, and absorb his attributes, He should then turn around and emit those attributes to his wife so that she may give off that glory at all times. Men, consider for a moment how your wife is perceived by not only others but also you yourself. If there are thoughts of embarrassment, disappointment, or frustration that run too freely in your mind… look in the mirror. What are YOU saying to your wife to ensure she speaks/ thinks highly of herself? If the Father created man to allow for Christ to have a bride, whom He speaks highly of, why would we allow ourselves to do anything but speak words of encouragement to our spouse? What are YOU doing to ensure that others speak highly of your wife to you or others? The answers are in the Word and how the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit orchestrate the flourishing of the Christ’s Bride. We as husbands need to become doers of the Word, intercessors with/ for our wives, and protectors of the borders of our home. The smile brought about by the reflection of a diamond can fade, but the smile brought about by the reflection of His love is permanent.

Put simply, Mark J is a man on a truly global mission to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Queens- bred emcee that resides in Atlanta is a balanced minister that is defined by much more than the quality music he puts out. Here’s a look into the life of an artist who comes with concept after concept to speak “soulutions” not only to a city of pain, but also an everyday world.

Kellus Hill: Let me start this interview off by thanking you for your time on behalf of DaSouth.com! Tell the people, who is Mark J off the mic?

Mark J: A Father, a husband, a devoted member of my local church seeking to utilize my gifts to serve the kingdom.

KH: Amen, how long have you been married, how many kids do you have, and what capacity do you serve in the local body?

MJ: It will be 8 years of marriage come next month. I have a 3 year old daughter and a newborn coming in October. We find out the sex of the baby in two weeks (praying for a boy!). I’m a decision counselor at my church under the discipleship ministry. I also co-lead the connections ministry which focuses on spiritual maturity for new believers.

KH: Wow, that’s big… to carry the ministry commitments you do and be a family man as well, praise God! I have heard you preach on a couple of your albums so I’m not too surprised about the passion you have. What from your ministry responsibilities inspired you as you worked on “An Everyday World”?

MJ: Well, I am really big on apologetics (the study of defending the faith) because the times we live in call for us to take a stance on our beliefs. The more I studied on different religions and cultures the more passionate I became on global issues. I was also traveling out of the country a lot for shows which all played a part on the theme for this album.

Listened to a powerful message the other day, preached by Matt Chandler of Village Church here in North TX. He covered the title- referenced chapter and discussed how it relates to our approach to living for the Lord. The conflicting prayers of the Pharisee and the publican/ tax collector, were discussed in a way I hadn’t personally heard before. We all know the Pharisees are known for being law- abiders, to a fault, that enjoyed showing their commitment to the appearance of perfection. This was proven in the self- glorifying prayer that Jesus references. On the other hand, the humble publican prays in violence towards himself, only seeking the grace and mercy of The Father. We cannot obey to be accepted; we can only thank the Lord that by Christ’s blood we are accepted, therefore we obey.
